Farewell to Susan

It was with both sadness and smiles that CKUA wished Susan Campbell a fond farewell. Moving on to bigger (well, maybe not bigger exactly) things, Susan promised us that we had not seen the last of her or her cakes at the station!

To show our appreciation for all she had done, a small tea party was thrown that included wonderful, personalized performance from our very own CKUA ukulele choir!

Susan, thank you for everything! We can't wait to see you next campaign-time!

Volunteer Op: ESO at the Winspear

If you're keen to attend the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra's Masters Meyer's Bass Concerto - CKUA has two free tickets for volunteers who are willing to set-up our station banner in the lobby.

What: ESO's Master Meyer's Bass Concerto - Banner set-up
When: Friday November 15th. Arrive for 6:30 pm. Show starts at 7:30 pm
Where: Enmax Hall, Winspear Centre

Fundraiser Feedback

First of all, we'd like to thank everyone for participating & making this Fall Fundraiser a success. Susan Campbell said it best on her last day in the office - CKUA's volunteers are filled with passion from the tops of their heads to the tips of their toes. And that passion shows in how much you do for the station.

Also a huge thank you as we rolled out our new platforms these past few weeks; our blog, Facebook Group & Mailchimp forms have hopefully not been too painful. But if they have been painful, we want to know about it! We have created this short (in minutes) survey in regards to your experiences with fundraiser & our new digital formats. It's all important in making sure we can continue to make your CKUA Volunteer experiences even better!

Email Sign-ups

As the Fall Fundraiser comes to an end, I hope everyone has been having an amazing time. I know it's been great to see so many of your smiling faces around the building this week! The campaign is going great - as always, your role as volunteers is absolutely vital and we're so grateful for all the hard work you're putting in.

And because we want to continue seeing all your smiling faces around here, I just want to make sure that everyone knows how to receive email updates from this blog. Signing up for emails is completely optional, and if you don't want them, you don't have to have them. We'll continue to post blog stuff on Facebook, and if you prefer to occasionally hop on over here and check what's happening yourself, that's fine as well. But for those of you who want to receive emails, I hope this will clear up any confusion.

Signing up for emails is very simple. Just click on the "Subscribe to Emails" button along the right hand side of the blog.

This will open a page with a form on it. Fill out the form and click "Subscribe to List." You'll then receive an email that asks you to confirm your subscription. Once you follow the directions in the email, you should be subscribed!

The "Dear Volunteers" email with content from the blog sends out once a week, on Thursday evenings. If nothing changes on the blog that week, no email will send. Occasionally we may send out other emails that contains information more time sensitive - the winner of the cake draw, for instance.

If at any time you want to unsubscribe from emails or change your information, you can do so by clicking the "Unsubscribe from this list" or "Update subscription preferences" links located at the bottom of every email. You can also email us and we can make changes manually.

And that's all she wrote! If you have any concerns, issues, or questions about this blog, the emails, or even about volunteering in general, don't hesitate to ask here, on Facebook, or by email. And keep on smiling!

Campbell Cake Winner!

Fall Fundraiser is upon us! Hope the first day went well for everyone. In case that wasn't exciting enough on it's own, though, we have a winner of their very own Campbell's cake (though we hope you share!).

Thanks everyone who rushed to sign-up for shifts using the form here on the blog. We really do appreciate your support for this blog, even if we have to bribe you with cake. Not that cake is ever a bad thing!

We placed everyone's names into a random generator and the lucky winner of the Campbell's Cake of their choice is.....

Clayton Brad!

Congratulations Clayton. Please let us know here in the comments or in the facebook group what kind of cake you would like and what day you'd like it. If you're not sure what flavour you'd like, you can always leave it up to Susan. She hasn't disappointed us yet!

There are still plenty of shifts available, & you can see them all on our color coordinated calendar!! To see all the available shifts for the Fall Fundraiser go to October 17 - 27 and veiw by day, when a shift has been filled it color is turned to gray, and you can filter what shifts you see with the drop-down menu in the top right hand corner (its a little arrow). To sign up for available shifts, fill out the form on the Fundraiser page (in the menu bar at the top this page).

Sign-up Forms, Emails, and Blogs, oh my!

If you're reading this, it means you have successfully accessed this fancy new blog. And many of you have clicked that "Subscribe to Emails" button on the right, there, and filled out a form to get a weekly digest of what's happening here on the blog. And even more of you have braved the sometimes confusing Fall Fundraiser Volunteer Application form. It's great to see everyone embracing this new system, even if it is scary and different.

To try and cut down that "scary" part of all this, I (Cassidy, the Blog Intern) thought it might be prudent to explain just what is going on behind the scenes. The system we're using to make all these forms is fantastic, but when all you see is a form and emails, it can be hard to understand just what exactly is happening. So join me as I try and explain just what this MailChimp thing is that we keep talking about. I promise there's no actual chimps involved.
